BREAKING: ‘If You Want a Strike to Be Very Effective in This Country, 8 Unions Must Sign In’ – Esele

A Former President of the Trade Union Congress, Peter Esele has alleged that to have an effective strike in Nigeria, 8 unions under the TUC and NLC must be in agreement.

He emphasized that the government benefits from the division of the Labour Union. He underscored the importance of a cohesive front for effective strike action to force the government to implement certain policies.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”In Issues like this the government benefits in the sense of this conflict. The Labour Union is weakened and if you don’t have a solid front, you can’t confront the government. Both the TUC and NlC have what we call the G-7 Union or G-8 Union.

If you want a strike to be very effective in this country, 8 unions must sign in. So, I think about three of them are in the TUC, and another 4 are in the Labour Congress.

While others will come together with those eight unions. But what we have right now is that if you have such division, your strike is not going to be effective.”
