The Abuja-based Igbo Community Association (ICA) has congratulated Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his election as Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s president general. ICA President General Engr. Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe praised Ohanaeze Ndigbo for holding a peaceful and cohesive election process in a statement issued on Monday. He also praised the outstanding leadership record of Senator Azuta-Mbata.
Engr. Ezenekwe emphasized the significance of Igbo unity, stating, “The successful election demonstrates that regardless of our geographical location within Nigeria, we remain a united family of Igbo-speaking people.” He urged the people of Rivers State, Senator Azuta-Mbata’s home state, to offer their unwavering support to their distinguished son as he embarks on this crucial leadership role.
Reflecting on the historical journey of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Engr. Ezenekwe traced its roots back to the Lagos Igbo Union, established in the 1930s. He also addressed the need for unity within the Ikwerre community in Rivers State, urging them to foster a harmonious atmosphere for their newly elected leader.
“Ikwere is an integral part of the Igbo community, and this bond must be upheld,” Engr. Ezenekwe declared. He stressed the importance of solidarity among all Igbo-speaking communities, emphasizing that “we are one people, united by our shared language and heritage.”
The ICA expressed confidence in Senator Azuta-Mbata’s ability to effectively address the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities that lie ahead for the Igbo people worldwide. They believe he will play a pivotal role in advancing the interests of the Igbo community and fostering unity within the region.
