[BREAKING] Impeachment: Lawmakers Likely to Back Down as Tinubu Meets Fubara, Wike

In a fresh troubleshooting initiative, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday night met with Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The meeting took place at the official residence of President Tinubu.

The Sunday meeting with the FCT Minister and Governor Fubara was the second time Tinubu has brokered a peace deal between the duo.

According to sources, the meeting held behind closed doors was fruitful as President Tinubu told Governor Fubara in clear terms to keep to the terms of peace deals earlier sealed with the FCT Minister.

At the end of the meeting, Governor Fubara, who assured President Tinubu of his preparedness for genuine peace, left the Presidential Villa in company of the FCT Minister for the latter’s residence in Guzape, Asokoro.

The earlier peace deal suffered a setback last December following Governor Fubara’s defection to the APC.

A serving governor in the South East in cold war with the FCT Minister facilitated Governor Fubara’s defection to the ruling party.

The Rivers leadership impasse took the front burner of national discourse again last January following the commencement of impeachment process against the Rivers State governor by the state assembly lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister.

Twenty six members of the State Assembly led by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Rivers State House of Assembly, Major Jack, read out the notice of allegations and alleged gross misconduct against Fubara.

Relying on Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, Jack reeled out seven points of alleged gross misconduct against Fubara.

Sunday’s meeting at the instance of President Tinubu may force the lawmakers to back down on the orchestrated plot to oust Fubara from office. See more
