BREAKING: INEC Chairman Under Fire as PDP Faction Issues Resignation Ultimatum

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, to resign over allegations of partisanship.
The group warned that such alleged bias could affect the credibility of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to Daily Trust, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the INEC chairman has failed to show neutrality, raising doubts about the commission’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.
He stressed that the chairman’s actions have repeatedly suggested political alignment, describing it as a major threat to credible elections. Ememobong added that stepping down now would help rebuild public trust in the electoral process ahead of 2027.
In a similar reaction, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) also criticised the situation. Its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the alleged conduct as a serious blow to the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.
The party further warned that failure to address the issue could trigger civil disobedience, underscoring growing political tension as the next general elections approach.
