Before the exercise, expectations were sky-high in Africa’s most populous nation as millions of citizens elect the country’s next president and lawmakers.

In all, 94 million citizens registered for the election; No fewer than 87.2 million of them have collected their permanent voter cards (PVCs) and were eligible to vote.

01:14 am: The state-by-state collation has ended!

The next stage is the summary of results by the states, to be followed by the declaration of results.

01:03 am: Imo is the final state.

There are 2,419,922 registered voters in the state, 485,150 of whom are accredited.

There were 477,957 total votes cast, comprising 467,380 valid votes and 10,577 void votes. Polls were cancelled in 194 polling units, affecting 35,542 registered voters with 33,897 PVCs collected.

The reason given for the cancellation is insecurity.

12:43 am: Rivers state is next.

The Niger Delta state has 3,537,190 registered voters and 695,055 accredited voters.

A total of 523,651 votes are valid, whereas 30,293 are void. The total votes cast are 553,944. The number of polling units affected by cancellations is 121 with 55,314 registered voters and 51,763 of them have collected PVCs.

Reasons for cancellation include BVAS malfunction and violence.

12:33 am: Results for Borno State.

The total number of registered voters in the state is 2,513,281 while that of accredited voters stand at 499,543.

Valid votes amount to 465287 and void votes, 32,658, making 497,945 votes cast. Polls were cancelled in 12 polling units with 15,508 voters. PVCs collected in the PUs equal 13,825.

Reasons given for the cancellation are over-voting and BVAS failure.

12:24 am: The collation officer for Benue, Prof. Abdulaziz, takes centre stage for presentation of results.

Registered voters in the state are given as 2,022,374, while accredited voters amount to 521,442.

Total votes cast in the state is 517,818, including 18,460 void votes and 499,358 valid votes.

According to the officer, elections were cancelled in nine polling units under four LGAs with 8,228 registered voters, 7,209 of whom have collected PVCs. The reason given for the cancellation is over-voting

12:22 am: It’s Wednesday, March 1, 2023 and the National Collation Centre is back in session.

The INEC Chairman takes his seat, while the Head of the Commonwealth Observer Mission, Thabo Mbeki, is around with his team.

10:21 pm: National collation adjourned until 11 pm.

10:11 pm: Presentation of results for Anambra State follows.

The state has 2,656,437 registered voters and 628,590 accredited voters.

The number of valid votes are 613,861, while void votes is 10,751. The total number of votes cast is 624,612.

Elections were cancelled in 45 polling units with 25,368 registered voters and 25,027 PVCs collected.

10:03 pm: Up next is Ebonyi with Prof. Charles Igwe as collation officer.

The number of registered voters is 1,597,646 and accredited voters are 337,887.

09:51 pm: Delta State is next.

Prof. Abraham is the collation officer. The state has 667,149 accredited voters and 3,221,697 registered voters.

A total of 615,341 valid votes were recorded with 39,309 void votes, adding up to 654,650 total votes cast.

Polls were cancelled in 11 wards with 29 polling units and 15,701 registered voters, 13,051 of whom had collected PVCs.

09:43 pm: Results are presented for Cross River.

The state has 1,766,465 registered voters and 444,880 of them were accredited. The results by the leading parties are as follows:

NNPP – 1,644
PDP – 95,425

The number of total votes cast is 441,576, including 416,968 total valid votes and 24,608 void votes.

The collation officer, Prof. Akpofure, notes that cancellation happened in four wards and eight polling units with 3,175 registered voters. Of that number, 2,675 have collected PVCs.
