BREAKING: IPI Nigeria re-elects Mojeed, Shekarau as president, secretary

The Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, Musikilu Mojeed, has been re-elected as President of the Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute.

The Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Group, Ahmed Shekarau, was also reelected as Secretary.

Mojeed and Shekarau, along with four other executives, were elected unopposed and sworn-in for another three years at the organisation’s annual general meeting held in Abuja. on Thursday.

A statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday by a member of IPI’s global executive board, Raheem Adedoyin, revealed that the newly elected executive committee members include Fidelis Mbah of Al Jazeera Television (Deputy President), Rafatu Salami of Voice of Nigeria (Treasurer), Yomi Adeboye of Herald Newspaper (Assistant Secretary), and Tobi Soniyi of Arise News (Legal Adviser).

During his inauguration, Mojeed pledged an inclusive administration, calling on members to support his team’s vision of enhancing the operational environment of Nigerian media.

A major highpoint of the event was the arrival of ex-govrnor Segun Osoba, who commended the leadership of the organisation for ensuring a successful conference.

The statement said on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who chaired the conference opening session, and the keynote speaker, Prof. Tony Iredia, argued on the subject of press freedom in the country.

The IPI, with headquaters in Vienna, Austria, is a global network of media executives, editors and leading journalists.
