The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has responded to remarks made by Sunday Dare, an aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, regarding the legal cases of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and self-determination activist Sunday Igboho.
In a statement issued on February 18, 2026, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, said the comparison between Kanu and Igboho is misleading.
The group highlighted Kanu’s role as the leader of IPOB and described him as committed to his movement’s objectives.
The statement referenced historical figures who faced legal challenges in their activism, emphasizing the broader context of leaders being subject to judicial proceedings. IPOB called for focus on constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement regarding the political aspirations of its members.
