A woman who made headlines for fighting off a lion alongside her husband has explained why she risked her life to save that of her husband.
According to the woman identified as Susan, she could not just watch from a distance as the lion tried to kill her husband even though she had initially run away.
Speaking to Zunguka Africa Safaris Ltd, the mother of one said it was her love for her husband that gave her the confidence to go back and fight off the predator.
Recounting the chilling incident, Susan said the lion was hiding in the trees when they were on their way to fetch firewood.
Her initial instinct was to run, but her husband, identified as Micheal, chose to wait for the lion, which pounced on his chest and threw him on the ground.
Michael tried to fight off the lion while holding back its neck, but after it bit his leg and hand, he ran out of energy and called out to his wife to come and cut the lion using a panga.
Susan did not hesitate, and she jumped right in with the panga. But after cutting the lion once, it turned against her, which allowed her husband to now attack the lion using the panga.
