A former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the Eighth Senate has commended the cancellation of the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration by the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero.

Shehu Sani said the decision made by Emir Bayero despite the amount of publication given to the scheduled Durbar signifies a kindle of hope for peace in the state.

Recall that there has been tension in Kano State following the conflict between Emirs Bayero and Muhammad Sanusi over the dethronement and ascension of the throne.

With contradictory rulings from various courts, several residents of Kano State were worried the planned Durbar which coincides with Bayero’s fifth year anniversary on the throne could degenerate to a violent outing.

Bayero said clerics and key stakeholders in the state had advised him to cancel the celebration to avoid any form of violence in the state.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, March 26, at his mini-palace, the Emir announced the cancellation of the Durbar, he urged the people of the state to use the Sallah period to visit families and friends while enjoying the other activities of the season in peace and harmony.

In his reaction, Sani wrote on X, “HRH Aminu Bayero’s decision to cancel the widely publicized Sallah Durbar in Kano is commendable. It signifies a kindle of hope for peace.

“I pray that the two contending claimants of the throne will utilise the opportunity of the Divine blessings of this holy season to reconcile and unite their royal family,” the former lawmaker wrote.
