BREAKING: IWD 2025: Hospitality Chief urges women to prepare ahead for top positions

As the world prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, Cuthberga Onuoha, Director of Rooms at Lagos Continental Hotel, has urged women to prepare themselves for leadership roles in the hospitality industry.

Onuoha, who has risen through the ranks in the industry, emphasised the importance of hard work, dedication, and mentorship. “Women should prepare themselves for vacancies in the hospitality industry,” she said. “They should not see it as a job, but as a career.”

She noted that women should be passionate about their careers and work hard to achieve their goals. “Everyone should see hospitality as a career and not just a job,” Onuoha said. “The same way people are passionate to be trained as medical doctors, engineers or lawyers, is also how it should apply in hospitality.”

Onuoha’s own career trajectory is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She started as a front desk agent and worked her way up to become the Director of Rooms. “I have been fortunate to work with people who are genuinely passionate about driving the industry,” she said.

Onuoha also emphasised the importance of learning from others. “I have had mentors who have guided me throughout my career,” she said. “I also believe in learning from others, whether it’s a colleague or a superior.”
