BREAKING: IWD: Senator Akobundu Celebrates Women, Promises “Accelerated Action” in Advancing their Cause

Senator Austin Akobundu of Abia Central Senatorial District has praised women for their tremendous sacrifices in maintaining their homes, nurturing their communities, and serving as the foundation upon which nations thrive.

In his congratulatory message to women on the occasion of International Women’s Day today, March 8, 2025, under the theme “Accelerated Action,” Akobundu emphasized his commitment to improving the circumstances of women through educational empowerment, increased employment opportunities, and greater involvement in leadership roles. He underscored that these initiatives align with this year’s International Women’s Day theme and are central to his mission for the women of Abia Central.

He also highlighted his efforts in installing streetlights in various markets across Abia Central, noting that this initiative primarily benefits women by enabling them to engage in nighttime business activities, thereby boosting their sales and profits.

Additionally, women have been specifically targeted for participation in various free training and empowerment programs sponsored by Senator Akobundu. These initiatives include training in farming, sewing, cosmetics making, paint production, digital skills acquisition, cash awards to support small businesses, free distributions of food and household items to widows, and scholarships for the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) to train as educators.

In celebrating the hardworking, tenacious, diligent, courageous, kind, and family-oriented women of Abia Central, Senator Akobundu pledged to continue engaging and supporting them as they contribute to the peace, progress, and development of Abia Central, Abia State, and the nation.

“Accelerated Action” is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, calling for rapid advancements in gender equality and recognizing the strategies and tools that propel women’s progress in education, employment, and leadership—an endeavor to which Senator Akobundu is unwaveringly committed.

Happy International Women’s Day!
