BREAKING: Iwobi sets new EPL goal record

Alex Iwobi, a midfielder from Nigeria, broke the previous Premier League record on Saturday when he gave Fulham a late consolation goal during their 2-1 away loss at the Molineux Stadium.

With a brilliantly timed improvised finish deep into stoppage time, Iwobi cut Wolves’ deficit. However, Wolves held on after Rayan Ait-Nouri scored early in the second half, converting from Toti Gomes’ pull back after Fulham failed to handle a deep free-kick.

Wolves led 2-0 after Nelson Semedo’s deflected shot off Tom Cairney, and Opta reports that Iwobi’s goal late in the game was the most recent goal scored in the Premier League.

With the goal, Iwobi’s tally reached five, his highest season total to date in his career.

His previous best in the Premier League came in the 2018–19 campaign, when he made 35 league appearances and scored three goals.

With six goals and nine assists in 51 appearances across all competitions, that season is still remembered as his most productive. Amazingly, in just 25 games across all competitions, he has already tied his career high for goals scored.

The Nigerian international has been in excellent form since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in February. He has scored twice in his last four games, including the game-winning goal against Manchester United in late February.
