The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday, broke down in tears as he publicly apologised for the errors that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking at a press conference held at the Board’s headquarters in Bwari Area Council in Abuja, the visibly emotional Oloyede expressed regret over the challenges faced by candidates during the conduct of the nationwide examination.

“I apologise for the trauma caused the candidates,” he said, pausing briefly as he struggled to hold back tears.

The registrar, who took full responsibility for the situation, acknowledged that “one or two errors” had occurred during the examination process. However, he noted that further investigations by the Board uncovered deeper, more significant issues, particularly in certain regions.

According to Oloyede, the findings prompted JAMB to reschedule the UTME for 379,997 candidates across Lagos and the five South-East states. The decision, he said, was necessary to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of the examination.

“The affected candidates will start getting text messages for reschedule starting from tomorrow,” he confirmed.

Oloyede described the situation as an unfortunate case of “sabotage” and reiterated his personal accountability. “I apologise, I take full responsibility,” he added.
