The Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has praised Governor Uba Sani for releasing N548 million to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell scheme.
This payment follows the resolution of a dispute that had persisted since 2021, long before his administration.
In a statement issued by the Communique Drafting Committee chairman, Ango Bally, and secretary, Austine Agbo Emmanuel, the NUJ described Governor Sani as a leader who values the media.
The council also lauded his commitment to the rule of law and respect for traditional institutions, citing his reinstatement of Chief Jonathan Pharaguwa Zamuna as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom.
The statement noted that Governor Sani’s action aligns with a ruling by the National Industrial Court, which overturned the previous administration’s decision to depose Chief Zamuna. In compliance with the court’s judgment, the governor also ensured the payment of N10 million in damages, along with the chief’s salary and entitlements.
Also, the NUJ commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for his collaboration with the governor in restoring security in some of the state’s most vulnerable areas, including Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zangon Kataf, and Chikun local government areas.
However, the council expressed concern over the resurgence of violent attacks in parts of the state, particularly in Kauru, Sanga, Kajuru, and Kachia local government areas. It extended its condolences to the affected communities.
The NUJ also congratulated Governor Sani on being named “Governor of the Year” by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise News TV.
The council highlighted that the award recognizes his contributions to rural development, as well as his approach to governance, which has fostered relative peace and inclusivity in Kaduna State.
