BREAKING: Kano Police Ban Durbar Amid Sanusi, Ado-Bayero Rivalry

The Kano State Police Command has banned all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities in the state.
The police cited security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
The Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the ban during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.
“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” CP Bakori stated.
“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation.”
The Commissioner assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard the Eid prayers at designated grounds.
Meanwhile, the development comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, announced the cancellation of his planned Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.
Ado-Bayero announced the cancellation while briefing journalists at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano on Wednesday night.
“Durbar celebration is not a do-or-die affair for me, the peaceful coexistence of the people is much more paramount to me than anything.
“We pray that the decision to suspend the Durbar procession will improve the peaceful coexistence of our people and our blessed Kano.
“I am calling on the people to use the festive period to visit friends and family to improve on cordial relationships.
“I pray that we are among God’s [favoured ones] in the blessed month of Ramadan,” Ado-Bayero stated.
He had earlier written to the police for protection during the Sallah activities.
Concerns grew over the likelihood of violence since the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also preparing for Sallah events.
