The Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, has offered a live hippopotamus as a donation to Governor Dr. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State during the ‘Yauri Annual Rigata and Cultural Festival 2024’.

This generous gesture took place in Yauri town, where a local fisherman, Alhaji Kasabo Gungun-Sakaci, from Gungun-Sakaci village, caught the hippopotamus. Impressed by the fisherman’s bravery and the donation, Bello Ka’oje, the representative of Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, expressed his admiration by gifting the fisherman a new car.

The Emir, in presenting the unique donation, highlighted its significance as a recognition of the governor’s impactful development efforts in the region during his brief tenure.

He suggested that the governor may take the animal to the museum for upkeep “so that whenever there are important visitors to the state, they can be taken there for recreational activities.”

The governor appreciated the emir for the gift while describing the entire festival as a fantastic event which showcased the ability of the monarch to foster unity amongst the people of the emirate.

He said, “I assured that my administration will partner with the emirate to project the Rigata cultural festival; we will make sure that next year’s festival is celebrated in its permanent site.

“Our government is collaborating with Ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu and that of Education (State), Dr Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, to ensure the construction of Malandu-Warrah road.”

In his speech, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reminded the people that the Federal Government had established Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) to ensure rapid development of the people of the areas.
