The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has refuted claims that she has resigned from her position.
Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, dismissed the rumors on Wednesday, calling them the work of “mischief makers” loyal to impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
“I’m in the office. The speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye stated.
He alleged that Obasa’s supporters had commissioned bloggers to spread fake news in a bid to destabilize the new leadership of the House.
The resignation rumor reportedly stemmed from a “fake resignation letter” circulated on Monday, which Ajiboye urged the public to disregard.
The controversy follows the impeachment of former Speaker Obasa, who insists that his removal was illegal. Addressing supporters at his residence in Ikeja, he claimed that a “fake mace” was used to swear in Meranda and alleged police intimidation during the process.
Obasa has vowed to challenge his removal in court, while the Lagos Assembly has called on residents to ignore his claims, warning him against escalating tensions.
