A Lagos State High Court has ruled that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly must be included in a lawsuit filed by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is challenging his impeachment.
Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, who is presiding over the case, also postponed the hearing to March 7, when all related applications will be reviewed.
Obasa was removed as Speaker on January 13, 2025, by 36 lawmakers over alleged corruption. He is now contesting the impeachment, claiming the process was not properly followed. His legal team, led by Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), filed an application on February 12, 2025, asking the court to overturn the decision.
The current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and the Assembly were represented in court by a team of senior lawyers, including Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), and others. Additionally, some interested parties, represented by Olu Daramola (SAN) and Dada Awosika (SAN), sought permission to join the case.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Assembly has accused Obasa of attempting to disrupt proceedings by trying to reconvene a plenary session with a few supporters.
House spokesman Steve Ogundipe dismissed Obasa’s actions as unconstitutional, insisting that he no longer holds any authority in the Assembly.
