In an effort to combat unemployment and foster sustainable wealth creation among the youth, the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment organized a Job Fair aimed at connecting job seekers with companies that match their skills, passion, and ambitions.
The event, held on Wednesday at the Marquee Hall, Eko FM, Ikeja, Lagos, was officially opened by Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment. Themed “Unlocking Opportunities: Bridging Talent and Employers for a Prosperous Lagos”, the 2025 Job Fair sought to provide graduates and job seekers a platform to connect with potential employers and showcase their talents.
During his remarks, Commissioner Ajigbotafe emphasized the relevance of the theme, highlighting the importance of aligning the skills of job seekers with the needs of employers to stimulate growth in various sectors. He noted that job fairs play a crucial role in expanding the talent pool and providing fresh perspectives to propel the labor market forward in the 21st century.
“The Job Fair offers a unique opportunity for employers to meet individuals who are already trained and ready for gainful employment. It’s a platform for job seekers to find opportunities that can lead to long-term career growth,” he added.
The Commissioner also urged job seekers to take full advantage of the fair, especially those interested in securing employment in the informal sector.
Speaking earlier, Engr. Olalekan Nurudeen Shodeinde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, represented by Mrs. Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, Director of the Partnership Department, stressed the importance of a multi-faceted approach to tackling unemployment.
She highlighted the need for stimulating economic growth across various sectors, promoting vocational training, encouraging entrepreneurship, and introducing policies that incentivize businesses to hire young workers.
She also pointed out that the Graduate Internship Placement Programme, one of the Ministry’s key initiatives, aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda and is designed to ensure inclusivity and create viable employment pathways for graduates.
