Breaking: Lagos Mainland Churches Prepare to Launch Major Synod This Thursday — What You Need to Know!

Anglican faithful of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland will begin their four-day synod on Thursday afternoon at the Cathedral of St. Jude, Ebute Meta, Lagos.
The synod’s theme is, “But do mine, first” taken from 1Kings 17:13, which the Rt. Revd. Ebenezer Saki, Bishop of the Diocese of Akoko-Edo, will examine in his sermon at the opening service.
According to to terse statement signed by Lanre Idowu of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland, on Monday, the Rt. Revd. Akinpelu Johnson, host Bishop of Lagos Mainland, will on Friday at All Saints’ Church, Yaba, deliver the presidential address which will give a state-of-the-church-and-nation address.
“The ceremony is the first session of the seventh synod of the nineteen-year-old diocese,” Idowu states.
A synod is a three-year cycle of annual sessions where issues of grave importance to the church and society are addressed by the clergy and lay representatives in a diocese. It welcomes messages from dignitaries outside the church and produces a communique which will emphasise the direction of the diocese for the next year.
The synod will close with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, May 25, at the Bishop Adelakun Howells Memorial Church, Surulere, Lagos.
