BREAKING: Lagos to supply 70m gallons of pipe-borne water daily – Information Commissioner

The Lagos State Government has outlined plans to supply 70 million gallons of pipe-borne water daily to residents.

This is a commitment that was shared by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, at the “Citizen Engagement Forum” in Alausa, Ikeja.

Omotoso said that, despite the challenges, the government is actively addressing water supply issues in the state.

An agreement has been signed with the Ogun State Government for the supply of water from the Adiyan Water Reservoir, with Lagos already having paid N600 million for the anticipated water provision.

Omotoso also announced significant strides in the healthcare sector, including the commissioning of a new general hospital in Ojo Local Government Area, the first of its kind built by the state in over a decade. He called the new facility one of the most advanced in the state.

Also, a 500-bed health center is being constructed in Ikosi Ejinrin, and the Massey Children’s Hospital on Lagos Island, currently under construction, is set to become the largest pediatric hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.

“The Massey facility will be the best in sub-Saharan Africa, featuring cutting-edge technology to reduce infant mortality and improve maternal healthcare,” Omotoso said.

The Commissioner also highlighted the construction of a Mental Health Centre in Epe, addressing the rising demand for mental health services driven by socio-economic pressures.

In terms of road infrastructure, the government is working to improve mobility across Lagos with continued construction and rehabilitation of road networks.

Omotoso also confirmed plans for the development of an international airport in Lekki to relieve pressure on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with all necessary agreements finalized.
