BREAKING: LASTMA Releases List of Offences That Could Land Motorists in Jail
Ikeja, Lagos state – The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has released a list of offences that could attract jail terms for motorists in the state.
LATSMA said eating, drinking, or smoking while driving could land motorists in jail.
The agency said the above offences are punishable offences under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
This was disclosed in a post shared on its official X handle,@followlastma, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
“Smoking, drinking and eating while driving is an offence according to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018.”
LASTMA explained that violators depend on the severity and judicial outcome risk having their vehicle impounded, facing three months imprisonment, or being sentenced to six months of community service
“Additional Penalty:
“Impound vehicle/ Three (3) Months imprisonment or six (6) monthly community service.”
Legit.ng reports that LASTMA is the agency charged with managing traffic in Lagos state and enforcing its traffic laws.

“I make N25,000 daily”, Fake LASTMA officer confesses
earlier reported that LASTMA operatives have arrested a fake officer, Adewunmi Taiwo.
The LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said Taiwo confessed to making at least N750,000 monthly.
According to Bakare-Oki, the 45-year-old suspect operates with a white Hiace Coaster Bus to intimidate and extort funds from motorists in the Oshodi area of the state.
LASTMA rescues driver as vehicle falls from Otedola bridge
The crash occurred around the same spot where a gas-laden truck explosion had killed at least six people a few weeks ago.
It was gathered that the car had four occupants, all of whom sustained varying degrees of injury.
Driver sets self, LASTMA officer, bus ablaze in Lagos
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a Lagos bus driver allegedly set himself, his vehicle, and a LASTMA officer on fire to evade arrest for a traffic offence, leaving the officer severely burned.
The incident unfolded in the Cele-Mile 2 area, where the driver reportedly poured petrol on the vehicle and the officers during an altercation with LASTMA.
LASTMA’s General Manager condemned the act, affirming the agency’s commitment to public safety and vowing decisive action against those involved.
