The Governor of Bauch State, Bala Mohammed, has said Nigeria would benefit so much from the potential in the livestock sector if properly harnessed.
Governor Mohammed said the livestock sector can address the country’s economic problems, unemployment and earn the country foreign exchange.
He stated this on Wednesday when the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee led by Professor Attahiru Jega paid him a visit to the Government House, in Bauchi.
He said his administration was committed to maximizing the benefits of the sector for the growth of the state’s economy.
“I am steadfast in my commitment to revitalizing our livestock sector as a strategic effort to bolster the state’s economy.”
Bauchi Governor stressed that the state’s unique assets, including vast forests and a peaceful environment, if properly harnessed, “can significantly enhance food security and create job opportunities“.
Responding to the Committee’s call for the optimal utilization of a federal livestock facility in Sullubawa, Toro Local Government Area, he assured of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary manpower and resources to ensure the facility’s effective management.
Bala Mohammed commended the Jega-led Committee for their work while assuring of his government’s support to ensure the sector’s potentials are harnessed for the benefit of the economy.
“I deeply appreciate the commendation from the Co-chair of the committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who recognized my proactive approach in inviting the committee to Bauchi. His insights on stakeholder engagement and the economic potential of the livestock sector further underscore the importance of our shared mission.
“The time is ripe to unlock the untapped potential of this vital sector, and Bauchi State will play its part in ensuring sustainable growth and national development,” he added.
He further announced plans to establish a state-level committee tasked with developing a comprehensive blueprint for livestock sector reforms.
