BREAKING: LSTMB, LASCOHET partner to advance traditional medicine

The Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) and Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), on Tuesday, held a partnership meeting to advance the practice of traditional medicine in Lagos State.

The meeting, held at the LSTMB office in Lagos, aimed to focus on key areas such as training and capacity development, curriculum development, and promoting the development of traditional medicine products.

While giving his remarks, the Registrar of LSTMB, Prince Babatunde Adele, said the collaboration represents a significant milestone in our journey to promote the development of traditional medicine in Lagos State.

In his words, “We are committed to fostering a strong and symbolic relationship with the LASCOHET to improve the health and well-being of our citizens. The partnership also includes facilitating the training and certification of TBAs (Traditional Birth Attendants) to CBAs (Community Birth Attendants) and other specialised practitioners, further facilitating the process of integrative medicine.”

According to him, LSTMB has registered and licensed over 10,000 Traditional Medicine Practitioners in recent years and is committed to strengthening its regulatory framework and promoting greater awareness and understanding of traditional medicine among the general public.

The Provost of LASCOHET, Professor Raheem Akewushola said both organizations are working in the same direction but in different offices, as LSTMB is saddled with the responsibilities of training, licensing, and regulations, while the College produces human capacity in complementary health which necessitates the need for an advanced synergy.

While assuring that the best is expected from the collaboration of both organizations, the Provost said it is a delight that this would be a starting point of a fruitful win-win partnership for the betterment and growth of Lagos State and the nation at large
