Olusegun Mimiko Early Life and Education

Olusegun Mimiko popularly known as Iroko was born on the 3rd of October 1954 in Ondo State.  He had his primary education at St. Joseph’s Primary School Aponmu before he attended St. Joseph’s College, Ondo, for his secondary education.

Olusegun Mimiko attended the University of Ife where he obtained his B.Sc. Health Science Degree.

Olusegun Mimiko Career

Olusegun Mimiko began his career as a Medical Practitioner registered with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council before he founded MONA MEDI CLINIC in Ondo Town which served as a community charity center. He also worked as a House officer with the Ondo State Health Management Board under which he worked at the General Hospital, Ado Ekiti. Thereafter, he worked with the Nigerian Navy College, Onne before he returned to the General Hospital as a medical officer.

Olusegun Mimiko has served as the  Acting Medical Director at Alleluyah Hospital. He later ventured into politics and became the commissioner of health and social services in Ondo State. After the return to democratic government in Nigeria, he retained his position as the commissioner of health and social services in Ondo State.

After he resigned, Olusegun Mimiko was appointed as the secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG) before he became the federal minister of housing and urban development. Thereafter, he contested and won the 2007 Ondo State Gubernatorial election but due to the influence of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, INEC declared  Agagu as the Winner. However, he challenged the result in court and he won the case after two years. In 2012, he won the re-election beating his closest challenger, Olusola Oke of the People’s Democratic Party.

In 2018, Olusegun Mimiko declared his intention to run in the 2019 presidential elections. Although he was nominated as the presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, he suspended his presidential campaign a few days before the campaign season was formally opened.
