The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has firmly denied reports suggesting that Minister Mohammed Idris (fnipr) dismissed recent concerns raised by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, regarding the security situation in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Minister’s office described a headline by an online publication as “categorically false” and a “gross distortion” of his actual remarks. The headline, which claimed the Minister said “Ignore Zulum, Boko Haram is not taking over Borno,” was labelled sensational and misleading.

“This is a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at stoking public misunderstanding and distracting from the serious work being done to address the country’s security challenges,” the statement read.

Clarifying his position, Idris acknowledged that while the Federal Government has recorded significant gains in the fight against terrorism and other security threats, some regions—such as parts of Borno—continue to experience challenges. He highlighted ongoing efforts by the military and security agencies, the Federal Government’s investments in intelligence and hardware, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace nationwide.

The Minister stressed that his comments were aimed at offering context on national security progress and not to trivialise or dismiss Governor Zulum’s concerns. He also called for sustained collaboration between state and federal authorities to secure affected communities.

The statement concluded with a call for responsible journalism, urging media outlets to verify their information and refrain from sensational reporting that could undermine national unity and progress.
