Fenerbahçe manager, Jose Mourinho, has filed a lawsuit against Galatasaray following accusations that he made racist remarks.
The controversy began after Mourinho described the Galatasaray bench as “jumping like monkeys” during a post-match interview.
He also commended the Slovenian referee, suggesting that the game was better officiated by a non-Turkish official.
However, Fenerbahçe insists that Mourinho’s comments were taken out of context and misinterpreted.
The lawsuit, which seeks damages of approximately £41,000 a symbolic figure representing Fenerbahçe’s founding year was confirmed by the club’s lawyers on Friday.
The club stated that the legal action was necessary to protect Mourinho’s personal rights against what they described as false accusations.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Football Federation has handed Mourinho a four-match ban and fined him over £35,000 for two separate disciplinary infractions.
Fenerbahçe maintains that Mourinho’s words were unfairly twisted and argues that the legal action is a step towards clearing his name.
