BREAKING: NAF embarks on 340 infrastructure projects, completes 195 in 20 months — CAS

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated 340 infrastructure projects over the past 20 months, successfully completing 195 of them.

Abubakar disclosed this on Friday during the commissioning of officers’ accommodation in Abuja.

He stated that 145 of the projects were at various stages of completion, including key developments such as the new NAF Headquarters Annex at Gudu, the NAF Hospital, and the NAF Microfinance Bank, all located in Abuja.

According to him, additional housing units have also been completed in Karmo and Karu to provide improved accommodation for officers, airmen, and airwomen.

The Air Chief noted that the service remains dedicated to addressing infrastructure deficits, with a target of reducing these gaps by 50 per cent by the end of the year.

“Several projects have been initiated to bridge the infrastructure shortfall in the service. Our objective is to reduce these deficits by 50 per cent before the year ends,” Abubakar stated.

He further emphasised the importance of digital transformation in NAF operations, announcing plans to provide internet access across all NAF bases.

“This initiative will enhance communication and facilitate real-time information sharing in today’s highly technological and complex world.

“I encourage all personnel to utilise these facilities and contribute innovative ideas that will strengthen air power capabilities and promote self-reliance in line with global advancements,” he said.

Abubakar reiterated that infrastructure development forms a core part of NAF’s broader welfare strategy, aimed at improving the well-being of personnel and their families.

He outlined the service’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services, expanding educational opportunities for personnel’s families, and implementing robust professional development programmes.

“These initiatives will foster an environment where every personnel member can perform at their best,” he added.

The CAS also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support in realising the NAF’s vision.

According to Abubakar, the ongoing projects are designed to build a resilient and capable force that meets the air power demands of national security across all operational environments.

Abubakar revealed that the newly inaugurated housing units consist of 10 two-bedroom apartments for married officers and six three-bedroom transit accommodation units for officers on temporary assignments.

Group Captain Hassan Ibrahim, Commander of the 053 NAF Camp, described the projects as a reflection of the CAS’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of NAF personnel.

“These projects highlight the priority given to personnel well-being, both in operational and administrative aspects,” Ibrahim stated.

He acknowledged the commendable policies that have focused on enhancing personnel welfare, promoting excellence, and driving infrastructure development within the force.

“The proactive execution of these initiatives has led to significant improvements in housing conditions and overall living standards for NAF personnel,” he concluded.
