BREAKING: NAFDAC alerts Nigerians over fake Amoxycillin flooding markets

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent warning regarding counterfeit Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsules suspected of causing severe adverse reactions.

The agency has recalled batch number 4C639001, marked with a March 2024 manufacturing date and February 2027 expiry, urging the public to remain vigilant.

At a press briefing in Abuja, NAFDAC DG Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye revealed the issue would be escalated to the WHO’s Global Surveillance and Monitoring System due to concerns the counterfeit product may have crossed Nigeria’s borders.

She said NAFDAC has taken samples for laboratory analysis and invited stakeholders, including Quality Control and Production Managers, for further questioning.

Prof. Adeyeye reassured the public of the agency’s stringent vigilance measures while urging consumers to cease using the suspected batch and healthcare providers to ensure authenticity in their supply chain.

“The analysis is currently pending determination while the investigation is ongoing.

“Meanwhile, the Quality Control and Production Managers have been invited for further investigation.

“The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, the Agency that issues site licenses for the site and the Pharmacist in charge has been notified,” she stated.
