On Tuesday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) inaugurated the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Karu, Abuja.
At the event, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasised the agency’s commitment to combating drug abuse and the consumption of illicit substances among Nigerian youth. She was represented by Dr Paul Kamai, Deputy Director in charge of Narcotics in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Adeyeye highlighted the increasing dangers posed by counterfeit drugs, substance abuse, and self-medication. She urged students to take responsibility for their futures and avoid harmful substances, stressing that the establishment of the NCSC was a significant step in raising awareness about drug abuse.
She further encouraged the school’s authorities, teachers, and parents to provide consistent mentorship and guidance to ensure students remain informed and protected.
The Principal of GDSS, Mrs Omotolani Akinje, thanked NAFDAC for introducing the initiative, acknowledging that many students were unaware of the dangers of drug abuse.
Students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about the harmful effects of drugs and pledged to use the knowledge to make informed decisions.
