The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has appointed Dr. Mustapha Ali as its new Secretary following the voluntary resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Kontagora.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the commission’s Principal Information Officer, Shafii Sani. According to Sani, Ali was selected after successfully meeting the criteria outlined in NAHCON’s publicized job requirements.
“Dr. Mustapha Ali emerged successful after meeting the requirements advertised by the commission on its website and other media channels. His subsequent appointment was endorsed by the 5th Board of NAHCON after its meeting on February 26, in accordance with Section 8 of the NAHCON Establishment Act (2006),” Sani stated.
Ali’s appointment also ensures representation for Nigeria’s North East region within the commission’s leadership. He previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Pilgrims Board, bringing extensive experience to his new role.
Born in Yerwa, Maiduguri, Ali will serve as NAHCON Secretary for a four-year tenure, with the possibility of renewal. His academic qualifications include a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Administration, and certifications in Computer Application and Management. He studied at the University of Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano, and the University College for Islamic Call in Tripoli, Libya.
Sani noted that Ali has also undergone administrative training at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and other institutions. His responsibilities as NAHCON Secretary include record-keeping, conducting official correspondences, coordinating commission meetings, maintaining a register of licensed Hajj operators, and overseeing the publication of regulatory guidelines.
NAHCON expressed confidence that Ali’s appointment would enhance the commission’s operations and contribute positively to its mission.
