Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said his son, Bello El-Rufai’s, decision to remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC) is based on his free will.
Naija News reports that Bello is a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North, but his father has continued to oppose the ruling party, promising to work against them in the 2027 election.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Thursday, shortly after resisting an attempt by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on his arrival from Egypt, El-Rufai said his son is an adult capable of making independent political decisions.
El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), emphasised that his son’s electorate is happy with his performance.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory noted that his son’s decision to remain in the party does not conflict with his own stance against the APC, stressing that politics is about personal preference.
He said, “My son Bello was elected under the platform of the APC and his electorate seem to be happy with the work he is doing, so since he is an adult of over 30 years, he can make his own choices. Politics is about personal preference.” See more
