BREAKING: NASS Rescinds Decision on 2025 Budget

The Senate and House of Representatives have reversed their decision on the 2025 budget bill, initially passed last week, in order to correct errors in certain line items related to capital and recurrent expenditures.

Although the overall budget remains at 54.9 trillion naira, capital expenditure has been reduced by over 500 billion naira, while recurrent expenditure has been increased by the same amount.

The revised bill, passed by both chambers following a motion from Senator Adeola Olamilekan, chairman of the joint committee on appropriations, and Abubakar Kabir, chairman of the House appropriations committee, now allocates 13.588 trillion naira to recurrent expenditure and 23.439 trillion naira to capital expenditure.

On Thursday, 13th February, the National Assembly approved the 2025 appropriation bill, which originally allocated 13.064 trillion naira for recurrent expenditures and 23.963 trillion naira for capital.
