The ancient town of Oyo in Oyo State is set to witness a historic moment as Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade will officially be crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Naija News gathered that the much-anticipated event will cement Oba Owoade’s position as the custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

Reliable sources disclosed to The Sun that extensive preparations are ongoing ahead of the coronation. Committees comprising representatives of the Alaafin’s palace and the Oyo State Government have been established to ensure a grand and hitch-free ceremony.

Before his official coronation, Oba Owoade is expected to undergo a series of seclusion rites, traditionally referred to as Alaafin Rituals.

In a significant gesture of recognition, the governor presented the monarch with the staff and instruments of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, marking the beginning of his reign.
