BREAKING: New Customs Area Controller For Imo/Abia Command Seeks Discipline Among Officers

The new Area Controller of Nigeria Customs Service, Imo/Abia Area Command, Owerri, Comptroller Elisha Luka, has urged officers of the Command to remain committed in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Luka was appointed following the retirement of Comptroller Mohammed Gidado.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Nnadi Aligwekwe, in a statement on 5 April 2024, Comptroller Lukas has navigated through various commands and units, occupying sixteen different roles within the service, emphasising his commitment to professional development.

In his inaugural address, Comptroller Lukas explained the paramount importance of discipline and adherence to standard operating procedures among the command’s personnel.

He also highlighted compliance with the directives issued by the Customs headquarters regarding the new uniform code, urging all officers to align with the prescribed regulations.

Offering strategic guidance, he directed officers stationed at bonded terminals to prioritise meticulous documentation and revenue collection procedures before releasing consignments.

He added that officers serving at excise factories should maintain vigilance, ensuring that production volumes are accurately reflected in revenue collections.

In a bid to generate more revenue, the new Customs Area Controller announced plans for heightened surveillance aimed at identifying and bringing clandestine excise factories under control. “we will embark on surveillance to ensure that hiding excise factories are brought under excise control”. He added.
