The Enugu State Police Command announces that CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has officially taken on the role as the 29th Commissioner of Police in the state.
A statement by the command’s public relations officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe said CP Giwa succeeds AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), who has been redeployed after his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The statement further noted that the new CP “A native of Paikoro, Niger State, holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Economics from the esteemed Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
“He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1994 and has held numerous significant positions, including Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police and Police Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Command.
“His service includes various roles within the Police Mobile Force (PMF), where he has been the Commanding Officer of No. 3 PMF Squadron in Enugu, Second-in-Command for No. 11 PMF in Calabar, and Unit Commander for No. 14 and No. 18 PMF Squadrons in Yola and Owerri. Furthermore, he has served as Chief Superintendent of Police Administration (CSP ‘A’), Assistant Commissioner (AC), and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Police Mobile Force at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
“CP Giwa’s extensive experience also encompasses his tenure as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Kafin Hausa Division in Jigawa State and leadership roles within the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) at Force CID, Abuja. He has held the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), X-Squad, at the FCT Command in Abuja, as well as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Operations in the commands of Imo and Kaduna States.
“Notably, he served as the Police Component Commander for Operation Whirl Punch in Kaduna State, now incorporated into the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, known as Operation “Fansan Yamma”.
“He has also acted as Commissioner of Police in both Imo and Kaduna States’ Commands. Prior to his recent promotion and appointment as Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, he was the DCP overseeing Community Safety and Crime Prevention in the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
“CP Giwa has completed extensive professional training, including combat and operational courses at the PMF Training College in Gwoza, Borno State; the Advanced Detective Course (ADC); and the Tactical Leadership and Command Course (TLCC) at the Police Staff College in Jos. He has also participated in a European Union (EU) training on Countering Violent Extremism.

“His commitment to service has resulted in numerous accolades, including the Inspector-General of Police Commendation for Merit, the Best Squadron Award by Security Watch Africa while commanding No. 3 PMF in Enugu, and the Best Unit Commander Award from the PMF Training College in Gwoza, Borno State.
