The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja which nullified an earlier order concerning the registration of the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
The commission made the clarification in a statement released on Saturday, by Adedayo Oketola, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman.
According to INEC, it is fully aware of media reports surrounding the June 26 decision, but will reserve any specific comments until its legal department can thoroughly study the CTC document.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is aware of reports circulating in the media regarding the judgment delivered on Friday, June 26, 2026, by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, which set aside an earlier order concerning the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” Oketola stated.
“However, as of this moment, the Commission has not yet received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court’s order. Once the Commission’s legal department receives and thoroughly studies the CTC of the judgment, INEC will take an informed, lawful decision in line with the court’s directives. Until then, we cannot comment on the specifics of the ruling, and the public is urged to await the Commission’s formal position on the matter.”
The electoral body’s reaction follows a Friday ruling by Justice Isah Dashen, which set aside a previous court judgment from December 10, 2025, that had compelled INEC to register the NDC as a political party. The court found that the original order negatively impacted the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which had been excluded from the initial lawsuit despite claiming ownership of the logo the NDC used to secure its registration.
Consequently, the court ordered all involved entities to return to their status before the December 2025 judgment and called for a fresh hearing of the case with all required parties included.
