BREAKING: Nigeria Army, Chinese Army Advocate Cooperation

Nigeria Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army have reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

This followed a visit to the Nigeria Army headquarters by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Defence University led by Real Admiral Hu GangFeng, on Friday.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, said the Chinese delegation aimed to explore areas of cooperation, foster a robust relationship, and promote mutual understanding in training and military education between the two armies.

Addressing the delegates, the Chief of Defence Staff OAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, highlighted Nigeria Army’s experience in combating terrorism and insurgency.

Represented by the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Major General Etsu-Ndagi, Oluyede emphasized the critical importance of tailoring operations to address specific security challenges.

He noted that “sustained training, equipping, and the adoption of dynamic operational strategies have significantly enhanced the Army’s effectiveness in counter-terrorism operations“.

He further stated that these efforts have led to the decimation of terrorist groups and the reduction of security threats across the country.

On his part, Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, speaking on behalf of the Chinese delegation, reaffirmed China’s commitment to international military cooperation and pledged support to the Nigeria Army, particularly in the area of training.

GangFeng emphasized the “importance of shared learning and collaboration, noting that the delegation included representatives from various departments of theatre command, military services, and course participants“.

Their visit, he explained, is geared toward exchanging ideas and fostering a stronger, long-lasting relationship between the two military institutions.
