The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that the country is experiencing greater security under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

In a statement released on Monday, the government underscored the achievements of the military and security agencies, reporting that more than 8,000 criminals—including bandits, armed robbers, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers—have been neutralised in the past two years.

The statement, issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, also detailed the rescue of over 10,000 Nigerians, predominantly women and children, from captivity.

Onanuga attributed these successes to President Tinubu’s firm leadership as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“In the last two years, security forces have eliminated over 8,000 criminals, including bandits, armed robbers, Boko Haram terrorists, and kidnappers, while more than 10,000 Nigerians—mostly women and children—have been freed from their captors,” Onanuga stated.

The government also pointed to the positive effects of improved security on the agricultural sector. With a decline in attacks, many farmers—particularly those in the North-West and North-East—have been able to return to their farmlands. This, according to Onanuga, has led to increased food production and contributed to a reduction in the prices of essential goods.

“Due to enhanced security across various communities, especially in the North-West and North-East, farmers have resumed agricultural activities, boosting food production and helping to stabilise prices,” he added.

The statement credited security forces for their dedication, acknowledging that their ongoing operations have significantly contributed to these improvements.

While recognising that security challenges persist, the government reiterated its commitment to maintaining stability, ensuring that progress in safety translates into economic growth and national development.

Despite the security advancements, the government acknowledged concerns about the country’s socio-economic conditions. However, it maintained that Nigeria is on the right track toward recovery and prosperity, with security playing a pivotal role in fostering economic stability.

The statement highlighted that farmers in states such as Kaduna, Kebbi, and Jigawa are benefiting from the improved security climate, leading to increased agricultural productivity. Similarly, cash crop farmers across the country are seeing economic growth as a result of safer working conditions.

The Presidency also cited various initiatives aimed at job creation and youth empowerment, including the 3MTT, NATEP, LEEP, IDiCE, NiYA, and the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund. These programmes, the government stated, are projected to create over 10 million jobs.

Onanuga further noted the government’s increased investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, pointing to the N54.9 trillion 2025 budget as a key step toward economic revitalisation.

He referenced international recognition of Nigeria’s economic performance, citing a recent assessment by Chatham House, which described the country’s economy as “the most competitive it has been in 25 years due to ongoing reforms.”

While acknowledging the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, Onanuga assured citizens that the administration remains focused on long-term solutions.

“President Tinubu and his team will continue working tirelessly to fulfil the promise of a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria,” he affirmed.
