BREAKING: Nigerian Governors Declare Monday Holiday

Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State have declared Monday, October 7, 2024, a work-free day for teachers in their respective states.

The public holiday is in commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, a globally recognized event honoring the dedication and contributions of educators.

Governor Abiodun made the announcement during the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta on Saturday, October 4.

Meanwhile private schools in the state have showed willingness to observe the holiday.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ogun State chapter, shared the notice of public holiday with its members on Sunday, October 6. As a result, academic activities in Ogun State will resume on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Similarly, Governor Adeleke declared the public holiday to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of teachers to the growth of the education sector, not only in Osun State and Nigeria but worldwide.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in a statement emphasized the importance of teachers in shaping the future of society.
