BREAKING: NNPC Foundation Launches Free Cataract Surgeries in Adamawa

The NNPC Foundation has launched a free cataract screening and extraction programme in Adamawa State, with the aim of restoring sight to thousands of individuals across the country.

According to the Managing Director, Mrs. Emmanuel Arukwe, who was represented by Dr. David Bala, at the Eye Centre Specialist Hospital, Yola, the programme recognises that sight is a fundamental pillar of human dignity and opportunity.

Dr. Bala said the programme aims to provide free cataract screening, surgeries, and public education about eye health to a targeted 6,000 individuals across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, with 1,000 beneficiaries from each zone.

He said cataracts are a major cause of vision loss and blindness in Nigeria, and the NNPC Foundation’s programme is designed to improve and strengthen the health of communities across the country. By providing free cataract screening and surgeries, the foundation hopes to restore sight to thousands of individuals and improve their quality of life.

He said the programme is part of the NNPC Foundation’s efforts to give back to the community and improve the health and well-being of Nigerians. The foundation recognises that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, and this programme is designed to bridge the gap in access to care services, particularly in underserved communities.

“The launch of the programme in Adamawa State is a significant milestone in the foundation’s efforts to address the burden of cataract-related blindness in the country. The programme is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of individuals and families across the state and beyond.

“The NNPC Foundation’s commitment to improving eye health and restoring sight to those in need is a testament to its dedication to giving back to the community. The programme is a shining example of the foundation’s efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians,” he said

Bala said as the programme gets underway, the NNPC Foundation is urging Nigerians to take advantage of this opportunity and access free cataract screening and surgeries. The foundation is confident that this programme will make a significant difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families across the country.

He said the impact of the programme will be felt beyond just the individuals who receive treatment, as it will also have a positive effect on their families and communities. “By restoring sight to those in need, the programme will help to improve overall health and well-being, and empower individuals to live more productive and fulfilling lives.”

The NNPC Foundation has embarked on this initiative to address the prevalent vision impairment and blindness caused by cataracts in the country.
