
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the fire outbreak that occurred on Wednesday, 19 February 2025.
According to reports, the fire broke out at approximately 14:10 hours on the dry crude storage barge BESTAF-5, spreading to other nearby barges.
In an official statement, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, expressed gratitude for the swift response of emergency teams and industry partners in containing the fire.
“Thanks to the rapid intervention of our emergency response teams and industry partners, the fire was successfully contained. The incident did not impact operations at the flow station,” the statement read.
Soneye further assured that all personnel were accounted for and safe.
“Most importantly, there were no casualties, and all our staff remain unharmed,” he added.
NNPC Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to safety, environmental protection, and operational integrity, ensuring that necessary measures are in place to prevent future occurrences.
