Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has confirmed Ademola Lookman will miss Saturday’s LaLiga clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Lookman picked up an adductor problem during Atletico’s Copa del Rey final loss to Real Sociedad last weekend.

The Nigeria international was absent in Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Elche. 

Although there had been hopes he would recover in time to face Bilbao at the Metropolitano Stadium, Simeone ruled him out of the encounter.

“Ademola Lookman is not ready for tomorrow. It was a good decision to take him off in the Copa final,” Simeone said.

The 28-year-old is now targeting a return for Atletico’s UEFA Champions League first-leg semi-final showdown against Arsenal next week.

Lookman has scored twice in eight league appearances for the Red and Whites this season.
