BREAKING: No reckless borrowing to burden future generations – Tinubu assures Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline, assuring Nigerians that his government will not engage in reckless borrowing that could burden future generations.

This assurance came on Thursday as he signed the 2025 Budget of Restoration into law.

The President’s pledge is in line with his administration’s focus on economic recovery, stability, and growth.

The 2025 budget, totaling ₦54.99 trillion, is designed to drive economic expansion, improve security, and enhance the overall well-being of Nigerians.

According to President Tinubu, “We cannot spend what we do not have. While we have significantly reduced the deficit, we must ensure that we back every naira spent with actual revenue.

“We will not burden future generations with reckless borrowing. Instead, we will expand government revenues through efficiency reforms and enhanced earnings.”

He emphasized that his administration will prioritize prudent spending and value-for-money initiatives to ensure that every naira counts.

However, The President’s commitment to fiscal responsibility is reflected in the budget’s allocations.

The government has allocated ₦6.11 trillion to national security, ₦5.99 trillion to infrastructure development, and ₦5.70 trillion to human capital development.

President Tinubu commended the National Assembly for their prompt passage of the budget, describing it as an “extraordinary and patriotic duty.”

He also assured Nigerians that his administration will work tirelessly to ensure the effective implementation of the budget, pledging transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

As the President signed the budget into law, he expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, stating, “With hard work, discipline, and faith, we will restore our economy, rebuild our nation, and secure a brighter future for every Nigerian.”
