In an interview with The Punch, Chukwudiaso Onyema, a furniture maker located in Abuja, discussed the factors that led to his decision. He gained notoriety after seeking a return of the tithe he had paid to a well-known Abuja church.
After leaving the church and making the decision to no longer attend, he was asked if he had noticed any particular changes in his life. He replied that he had seen a lot of changes.
He said, “I’ve seen so many changes. Now I sleep in peace. I do not sleep with the mindset that somebody is after me or people want to kill me from the village. I now reason with my senses.”
Further talking, he said, “The money I am supposed to give to my fellow man as tithe, I am also investing it and it is yielding income to me. I am enjoying my wealth here on earth. I am not waiting for life after death. I am benefitting a lot from embracing humanity.”
