During the NPFL matchday 20 clash, Akwa United initially took the lead, but Remo Stars fought back, with Samuel Anakwe equalizing and Olamilekan Adedayo securing the win late in the game.
With this match, Remo Stars now hold a five-point advantage at the top, accumulating 39 points from 20 matches.
Plateau United also made headlines by overcoming Rivers United with a 2-1 win, damaging the visitors’ title aspirations.
Following Olawale Doyeni’s opening goal for Plateau United and a brief equalizer from Ndifreke Effiong, Emmanuel Ihezuo netted a late winner, demonstrating the competitive spirit of the league.
With this defeat, Rivers United remain second on the NPFL table with 34 points in 20 games, just a point above third-placed Shooting Stars who currently have a game in hand.
