BREAKING: NSA Ribadu slams Canadian embassy over visa denial for Defence Chief, others

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has condemned the Canadian Embassy for denying visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other high-ranking military officials.

Speaking at the inaugural annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) in Abuja on Thursday, Ribadu expressed his frustration, stating that Canada’s decision was disrespectful.

His reaction followed Musa’s disclosure that he and some senior military officers were scheduled to attend an official event in Canada on Wednesday but were denied entry. The event was intended to honor war veterans, including those wounded in battle.

“Every disappointment is a blessing. I was supposed to be in Canada yesterday for an event recognizing our veterans, particularly those injured in combat. While some members of our team were granted visas, others were denied. It is quite disheartening,” Musa stated.

In response, Ribadu commended the Defence Chief for openly addressing the issue, emphasizing that such treatment was unacceptable.

“Thank you for having the courage to speak out about Canada denying you visas. It is painful and disrespectful, but we remain strong and peaceful. This is another reason to work harder in making Nigeria a nation that commands respect,” Ribadu remarked.

He also praised Musa for his efforts in tackling insecurity, reaffirming that security agencies are working collaboratively to address the country’s security challenges.
