BREAKING: Obasanjo’s criticism rooted in envy, Ohanaeze Ndigbo tells Tinubu

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to forgive ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo for alleging that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was a conduit for corruption.

The Igbo socio-political group urged the president and the Minister of Works, David Umahi to stand firm in their zeal to complete the construction of the controversial highway.

The advice by Ohanaeze Ndigbo comes days after Obasanjo warned that the construction of the highway by the Tinubu’s administration was a wasteful venture aimed at siphoning public funds.

However, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in a statement signed by its deputy President General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro said the former president’s remark stems from a place of envy.

Isiguzoro describing the N15.6 trillion project as monumental and impressive alleged that Obasanjo aims to undermine the re-election prospects of President Tinubu.

He said, “This campaign is not merely a series of unsubstantiated criticisms but rather a concerted effort aimed at dismantling the progress that has been made under President Tinubu’s tenure.

“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway represents one of several pivotal projects poised to redefine the nation’s infrastructural landscape. By maligning this project, Mr. Obasanjo lays bare his insecurities, fearing that another President of Yoruba descent may indeed outshine his own historical legacy as both a former military leader and elected civilian President,” Isiguzoro said.

He further commended the minister for his exceptional leadership and prowess to set such a high standard for the nation.
