BREAKING: Ogun govt kicks as company demolishes primary school where it discovered mineral resources

Mr Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo), the Speaker of Ogun House of Assembly, on Tuesday in Abeokuta condemned the demolition of a primary school allegedly by Dangote Cement Plc.

The Speaker issued the condemnation while responding to the presentation by a member, Yusuf Amosun (APC-Ewekoro), during plenary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the school allegedly demolished was the Elefon Primary School at Elefon in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

Amosun had informed the assembly under personal explanation on the alleged illegal demolition of the primary school without notice to the appropriate government agencies.

He alleged that the school structure was demolished under the guise of discovering mineral resources within the compound of the school.

Amosun, who is Chairman, House Committee on Education, alleged that the company demolished the primary school in connivance with some chiefs and traditional rulers in the area.

“They are working on a project in Elefon village and I was informed that they discovered some mineral resources within the school premises.

“This prompted them to demolish the school in connivance with some leaders in the community,” he said.

Responding, Oluomo expressed displeasure that such could happen in the state.

The Speaker, thereafter, set up a committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi, to look into the matter.

He urged the committee to summon all people involved in the alleged demolition of the school.

“Invite the state’s Commissioner for Education, and the Headmaster of the school, as well as the traditional rulers and chiefs involved.

“It will be very sad if we distort the educational flow of our children. We must not deprive our children from going to school,” Oluomo said.

He urged the committee to engage all concerned parties on the matter and revert to the Assembly.

Also during plenary, the Speaker announced the constitution of the assembly’s Fund Management Committee which he would be heading.

Also, the Speaker announced that Gov. Dapo Abiodun would on Thursday present the 2024 budget proposal before the State House of Assembly.
