BREAKING: Ogun monarch demands support for healthcare infrastructure

Ogun State monarch, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona, on Sunday, appealed to public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to support efforts aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.

The monarch underscored the essential role that a robust healthcare sector plays in promoting the well-being of citizens and driving the nation’s socio-economic growth.

He emphasised the importance of collective support for the government’s ongoing investment in quality healthcare delivery across the country.

The royal father made this call during the inauguration of a N60m medical facility donated by Egbe Arobayo Obinrin of Ijebu land to the Ogun State Hospital in Ijebu Ode.

Represented by the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba, Oba Adetona lauded the selfless efforts of the Ijebu age-grade for their commitment to giving back to society.

Oba Adetona said, “I must say that I am really impressed with the standard of this project executed by the Egbe Arobayo Obinrin to enhance qualitative healthcare delivery in Ijebu Land and the state as a whole.

“This is good, it is a welcome development because it is a project that will further support the government’s desire to improve the health of its citizens.

“I, therefore, appreciate this group for their love for humanity, and I encourage other age-grade groups too, public-spirited individuals, and corporate organisations to make worthy investments in efforts that are tailored towards making life much better for society.”

The leader of the group, Alhaja Taiwo Odumosu, explained that the age-grade, known as “Regberegbe” in Ijebu land, initiated the project to mark its 20th anniversary.

The newly constructed building is designed to improve the outpatient experience at the hospital, addressing the long-standing challenge of inadequate waiting areas for patients.

“With the construction of this building, we have been able to provide a comfortable place for patients to receive care whenever they visit the hospital. The challenge of being drenched whenever it rains has become history,” Odumosu remarked.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Wellington Ogunsanya, also commended the group for their generosity and their partnership with the state government in improving healthcare delivery.

She expressed her joy at seeing such community-driven efforts to strengthen the hospital’s capacity.

Coker pledged the proper utilization of the facility and called for more partnerships to enhance the state’s healthcare system, ensuring better lives for its citizens.

The General Secretary of the group, Mrs Omotola Peter-Akrawa, revealed that the project cost the group approximately N60m.

She emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “The importance of this project lies in the fact that it is the first contact between the hospital and the patient.

“Now, the patients will no longer be exposed to harsh weather conditions or be beaten by rain when waiting to receive medical care.”
